A Christmas Gift Suggestion

It’s almost November.  Christmas is coming soon.  You have a circle of family and friends you’ll want to bless with gifts. You’ll soon be bombarded with ads and commercials suggesting gifts like new clothes, perfume or cologne, games, a flat screen tv, a fishing rod, etc.

May I make another suggestion?  A couple of weeks ago, Crossway Publishers released the English Standard Version (ESV) Study Bible. This is a remarkable volume on so many levels. The notes are extensive, accessible and representative of the best of contemporary evangelical Christian scholarship. The articles are rich, the maps and diagrams are remarkable. It is well-beyond any study Bible that I have seen.

Of course, the basis for this study Bible is the ESV text itself.  I use and highly recommend this translation.  It has a wonderful mixture of word-for-word accuracy from the original languages, readability and beauty. It is useful for devotion and memorization.  It is also most helpful for study for any person who wants to grow in spiritual maturity and Christ-likeness as a disciple of Jesus.

Crossway has released a series of brief introductory videos here, here, here, here, here, here, here , here and an interview with theological editor J.I. Packer here. The best prices I have found for the Bible are at the Westminster Bookstore.

This would be a great gift (and blessing) for any person on your gift list who is a follower of Jesus.

  1. I like how you said, introductory videos, here here here here here here here here here here here here.

haha ok their arent that many and they are ALL UNDER 2 minutes. So check them out!!!

I must agree with Dad here. The ESV study bible blows away all other study bibles, its not even close.

  2. My only complaint is that this was made available in October. Do you know how hard it is for me to wait until Christmas to get this!!! (Note to self: patience and self control, patience and self control)

  3. David,

This study Bible is amazing. We just initiated a plurality of Elders here at the Bridge and I gave them all an ESV study Bible and a copy of Grudem’s Bible Doctrine. If I expect them to be able to teach, I wanted to give them a great resource.
