A Ponder Slice (for the Lord’s Day, 03/21/10)

A Scripture to Ponder:

” I call heaven and erth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse.  Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying His voice and holding fast to Him, for He is your life and length of days….(Dt.30:19-20)

“If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God.  Set your mind on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.  For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.  When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.” (Col.3:1-4)

A Question to Ponder:

Is God in Christ merely a part of your life, or, in fact, your very life?   How does that shape your ordinary days?

A Prayer to Pray

Lord God, you set stars blazing, whales dancing, daisies smiling– and my heart beating.  So, while my physical  life is a complicated biological marvel of blood and air and organs and synapses, my life is more.  Much more.

My life arises from my soul, into which You once breathed the breath of life and then brought back from dead again through the bloody death and resurrection of Jesus.  I am so very grateful.

My real life doesn’t come from here at all, but from heaven.  From You. You are my life–my Source, my Reason, my Center.  So, I long to live as more than biology wrapped in skin.  I long to live with the quiet fulness and gentle joy that recognizes the wonder of life beyond this life.  Help me live my earthly days with heaven coursing through every breath, every thought, every moment.  Help me live that reality with passion until You appear.

I pray this in the life-giving name of Jesus, in Whom I am hidden, and Who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
